De'Aaron Fox Joins Spurs, Zach LaVine Moves to Kings in a Major Three-Team Trade

The NBA trade market has witnessed another blockbuster deal, reshaping rosters and shifting talent among three teams. According to multiple reports, the Sacramento Kings are trading star guard De’Aaron Fox to the San Antonio Spurs as part of a three-team trade that also involves the Chicago Bulls’ guard Zach LaVine. The trade, first reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania, includes Kings forward Kevin Huerter and several draft picks.

Fox’s arrival in San Antonio is a game-changer. Victor Wembanyama, the reigning Rookie of the Year, continues his ascent to superstardom. With his first All-Star appearance set for later this month and strong consideration for Defensive Player of the Year, Wembanyama is poised to make an MVP case. Playing alongside a dominant 7-foot-4 center, Fox, who is eligible for a contract extension this summer, saw the Spurs as an ideal landing spot.

Fox has been putting up impressive numbers this season, averaging 25 points, 6.1 assists, and 5 rebounds per game for the Kings. A former All-Star and All-NBA selection, he now gets a fresh start in his eighth season, teaming up with Wembanyama in San Antonio. Remarkably, the Spurs managed to acquire him without parting ways with key young players such as Stephon Castle, Jeremy Sochan, and Keldon Johnson. Additionally, veterans Chris Paul and Harrison Barnes remain on the roster, adding depth to the team.

Meanwhile, LaVine also finds himself in a new environment—sort of. Moving to Sacramento reunites him with his former Bulls teammate DeMar DeRozan and places him alongside perennial All-NBA candidate Domantas Sabonis. The two-time All-Star, entering his 11th NBA season, is averaging 24.0 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game. His career efficiency has reached new heights, shooting 44.6% from three-point range and 51.1% overall.

Huerter, who has averaged 11.5 points per game throughout his career, will also look for a fresh start after playing a bench role for Sacramento in 28 of his 43 appearances this season.

Other players involved in the deal include Zach Collins, Tre Jones, and Sidy Cissoko, all of whom have contributed in limited capacities this season. Jordan McLaughlin, who averaged 1.9 points in 28 games for the Kings, is also part of the transaction.
