Chelsea owner Todd Boehly has secured a 49% stake in Hundred franchise Trent Rockets, in a deal worth just under £40 million. The agreement values the franchise at £79 million, with the remaining 51% ownership retained by Nottinghamshire, the Rockets' host county.
The investment comes via Cain International, a firm co-founded by Boehly and British businessman Jonathan Goldstein. Previously, Cain was in contention for a stake in London Spirit, but the Silicon Valley consortium ultimately secured a 49% share in the Lord’s-based team for £145 million.
Growing Investments in the Hundred
The sale of Trent Rockets marks the latest major financial move in The Hundred, bringing total sales across seven teams to over £500 million. The collective valuation of all eight franchises now stands at approximately £820 million.
Other notable deals include:
- Surrey (Oval Invincibles): Sold 49% to Mumbai Indians owners for £60M
- Warwickshire (Birmingham Phoenix): Sold 49% to Birmingham City FC owners for £40M
- Glamorgan (Welsh Fire): Sold 49% to IT entrepreneur Sanjay Govil for £40M
- MCC (London Spirit): Sold 49% to a consortium led by Nikesh Arora
- Lancashire (Manchester Originals): Sold 70% to Lucknow Super Giants owners for £81M
- Yorkshire (Northern Superchargers): Sold 100% to Sun Group (owners of Sunrisers Hyderabad) for £100M
Final Franchise Sale & Boehly’s Expanding Portfolio
The last remaining team, Southern Brave, is expected to be sold this week, with IPL team Delhi Capitals' co-owners as the likely buyers.
Boehly’s sports empire continues to expand, following his £4.25 billion acquisition of Chelsea FC in 2022. He also holds stakes in Los Angeles Dodgers and multiple sports-related businesses through his firm, Eldridge Industries.
With the deals now in an eight-week exclusivity period, the partnerships will soon be finalized, further cementing The Hundred’s growing commercial success.
