In a thrilling Indian Premier League (IPL) match in Jaipur, Vaibhav Suryavanshi stunned cricket fans by becoming the youngest player ever to debut in the tournament’s history. At just 14 years old, Vaibhav Suryavanshi's age has already become a point of major discussion among cricket enthusiasts worldwide.
Representing the Rajasthan Royals, Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s IPL team, the young left-hander opened the batting against the Lucknow Super Giants and made an immediate impact. He smashed the very first delivery he faced for a six, showcasing remarkable confidence and talent. In total, he scored 34 runs off 20 balls, including three boundaries and two towering sixes.
Suryavanshi formed a powerful 85-run opening partnership with Yashasvi Jaiswal, providing Rajasthan with a strong foundation in their chase of 181. His composed yet aggressive approach stood out, especially his shots down the ground. His impressive knock came to an end in the ninth over, when he was stumped off the bowling of South Africa's Aiden Markram.
Signed during the previous year’s auction, Vaibhav Suryavanshi's IPL price was 1.1 crore rupees (approximately £103,789), a significant investment that already appears to be paying off. With this performance, he broke the record previously held by Prayas Rai Burman, who debuted in 2019 at the age of 16 years and 154 days.
Although Rajasthan Royals ultimately lost the match by two runs, Vaibhav Suryavanshi's extraordinary debut has made him a standout name of the tournament and a future star to watch in Indian cricket.
