Manchester City have completed the signing of Algerian left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri from Wolverhampton Wanderers, marking their first addition of the summer transfer window as Pep Guardiola continues to reshape the squad.

The 24-year-old defender joins City after five productive seasons at Wolves, where he made 135 Premier League appearances, scoring nine goals and providing 11 assists. Ait-Nouri has signed a five-year deal that will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until 2030.

Speaking to the club’s official site, Ait-Nouri expressed his joy:
“I’m incredibly happy and honoured to become part of Manchester City. This is one of the biggest clubs in the world, and playing here is a dream come true. I’m looking forward to learning under Pep Guardiola and working alongside such a talented group of players.”

Man City's Director of Football, Hugo Viana, praised the new arrival:
“Rayan is someone we’ve been monitoring for quite a while. His Premier League experience, combined with his performances for Algeria, make him a fantastic addition. We believe his development will accelerate even further under Pep’s guidance.”

From France to the Premier League: Ait-Nouri’s Journey

Born in Montreuil, a suburb of Paris, on June 6, 2001, Ait-Nouri began his career with Paris FC before moving to Ligue 1 side Angers, where he signed his first professional contract at just 16. After 23 appearances in France, he joined Wolves on loan in October 2020 and made an immediate impact—scoring on his debut in a 2-0 win over Crystal Palace.

His transfer was made permanent in July 2021 with a five-year deal. Internationally, Ait-Nouri represented France at youth levels but opted to play for Algeria at the senior level, debuting in March 2023 against Niger.

Impact at Manchester City

With Ait-Nouri’s arrival, Manchester City strengthen their options on the left flank. The signing indicates that Josko Gvardiol, who played as a left-back for much of the 2024/25 season, may shift back to a central defensive role going forward.

Youngster Nico O'Reilly, who covered the left-back position late last season, now faces increased competition as Guardiola continues to build depth across all areas of the pitch.
