Veteran Referee Ron Torbert Selected to Lead Officiating Team for Super Bowl LIX

The NFL announced its officiating team for Super Bowl LIX on Tuesday, ahead of the championship game set to take place at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on February 9. While the teams competing for the title will be determined on Sunday, the league has already confirmed the referees for the event.

Veteran referee Ron Torbert has been chosen to head the officiating crew, marking his second Super Bowl assignment. Torbert previously officiated Super Bowl LVI, where the Los Angeles Rams triumphed over the Cincinnati Bengals with a narrow 23-20 victory.

Joining Torbert is side judge Boris Cheek, a seasoned official making his fourth Super Bowl appearance. Cheek has previously worked on Super Bowl XLII, Super Bowl 50, and Super Bowl LIV. Together, Cheek and Torbert bring valuable experience as the only members of the crew with prior Super Bowl officiating history.

Notably, umpire Mike Morton, who spent seven seasons as an NFL player, adds a unique perspective to the crew. Morton, a former outside linebacker, played for teams including the Oakland Raiders, St. Louis Rams, Green Bay Packers, and Indianapolis Colts. He earned a Super Bowl ring during the Rams' 1999 season, contributing with a tackle in their victory over the Tennessee Titans.

The full officiating team for Super Bowl LIX includes down judge Max Causey, line judge Mark Stewart, field judge Mearl Robinson, back judge Jonah Monroe, and replay official Kevin Brown.

As the NFC's sixth-seeded Washington Commanders and No. 2 seed Philadelphia Eagles vie for a spot against the AFC's top contenders—the No. 1 Kansas City Chiefs and No. 2 Buffalo Bills—fans eagerly await the culmination of the season in what promises to be a thrilling finale.
